Sunday Worship:
Gathering
together for worship on a Sunday is the main focus of our congregation’s life.
While our worship centre is no cathedral, it is our sacred House of God,
hospitable and worshipful. We are very proud of the many colourful banners that
hang in the sanctuary, made by local people St. David’s offers a Christian
spirituality that is welcoming, celebratory, thoughtful and relevant to life
today. We are creative and our worship is enriched by music which is accessible
to all tastes and cultures. We
particularly like those hymns and songs written by New Zealanders for our
situation and context. Our Family
Friendly status is also evident in worship:
the children are welcomed and encouraged to participate, often leading
the opening of worship. As a
Presbyterian Church, our main focus is on the reading of the Bible and
reflecting on it. This may be straightforward reflection or may include drama
and poetry (and some quiet reflection). We expect a thought-provoking message and encourage our
congregation to think and debate how it might apply God’s Word to their lives.
Worship for us is about engaging heart and mind and as we meet with God and try
to follow the way of Christ. Usually the minister leads our worship, but other members of the church participate in many ways. As a church that has a strong community focus, we expect to pray for our local city and nation, and for those in our community who are ill, bereaved or struggling. On the
second Sunday of each month we celebrate Holy Communion. All are welcome to join us in this "Family Meal"
. To read the order of service for this Sunday's service in PDF format click on this link
